When you take a family of dog lovers and combine them with the facination of dog breeding, the possibilities are endless. Our family has been intrigued by canines that exotically display the controversial Merle gene. We knew we wanted to breed dogs as a family hobby the first time we were introduced to the puppies romping about in a living room puppy play pen at a friend's house. All three of the children in our home were extremely excited and begged and begged to have puppies of our own to care for. As their ever-loving mother and owner of a daycare, I have a soft spot in my heart for children as well as puppies. They got me hooked!
I made a call to a local breeder who suggested we find the perfect female Shih-tzu because of their loving personalities and natural instinct to be part of a pack: a family! I explained to her that I wouldn't mind a couple of Shih-tzus in the house but didn't know if I wanted to be constantly cleaning up long pet hair. Her next recommendation made perfect sense!
We should breed Shih-poos; the perfect family pet! The intelligence of a Poodle along with their non-shedding coat would compliment the warm dispostion and sturdy body of a Shih-tzu. This combination of dog breeds is the ideal concoction for our family of five!
Graciously, our dog breeder friend has offered her famous miniature merle poodle "Dash" up for sire when the time is right so that we can raise Merle Shih-poos. Our youngest daughter has made claim on a meticulously well bred AKC Chocolate Shih-tzu from Cincinnati which will be the matriarch to our future litters of Merle Shih-poos. Our son has also chose his new best friend, an AKC miniature red poodle from Arkansas with gray parti heritage to come along on our new family adventure as well! .
We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our newest family members. Please check back next week for an update and photos of the new puppies!
